After successfully defeating Bikke and his pirate crew in Pravoka, your adventure continues as you sail to Elfheim. This chapter is significant, featuring 13 bestiary entries and 44 treasure chests waiting to be discovered. Before heading into Elfheim Town, take a moment to explore the castle located just north of the town.

Elfheim Castle
Upon entering the Elven Castle, you will encounter the Elf Prince, who lies in a deep slumber due to a curse placed on him by the dark elf Astos. The prince’s attendant mentions a special concoction that could awaken him but is unsure of its whereabouts. You will also find locked treasure chests within the castle, which require the Mystic Key, similar to the locked doors found in the Chaos Shrine. to access.

Elfheim Town
Once you’ve gathered what you can from the castle, make your way to Elfheim Town. Here, the central magic shops offer Level 3 spells, while the eastern shops provide access to Level 4 spells. These spells represent a significant power upgrade, albeit at a steep price. If you can manage your finances, prioritize purchasing spells like Fira, Thundara and Cura. After stocking up, rest at the Inn before setting out again.

Western Keep
From Elfheim, head northwest through the forests and mountains until you arrive at the ruined structure known as Western Keep. Inside, you’ll find a king sitting on his throne. He tasks you with retrieving his Crown from the Marsh Cave located to the south. There’s also a locked room in the keep that you will return to later with the Mystic Key.

Marsh Cave
Upon reaching the Marsh Cave, prepare for your first real dungeon experience, which contains 18 treasure chests and a boss encounter. On this initial run, you can collect 15 of the chests, with plans to return for the rest once you have the Mystic Key. Be cautious, as many enemies can inflict poison; ensure you have Antidotes and Poisona ready.

Once inside, navigate north and descend to B2 North to collect four chests: a Dagger, 1,180 Gil, a Potion, and 1,120 Gil. Next, head to B2 South via the southern stairs where you’ll find three additional chests containing another Potion and a Broadsword.

B3 presents a maze-like structure, consisting of 16 rooms arranged in a 4x4 grid. Ensure to clear the treasure rooms before approaching Room 10, where the Crown is located. This action will trigger a fight against four Piscodemons, so prepare accordingly.

Battling Piscodemons
The Piscodemons each attack twice per turn and are resistant to fire and ice. They are immune to several status effects, so focus your physical attacks on one at a time while having your White Mage cast Cura to sustain your party’s health. After defeating them and you’ll obtain the Crown.

Confronting Astos
Return to Western Keep and speak with the king, who reveals his true identity as Astos, the King of the Dark Elves. Astos is formidable, utilizing instant-kill spells and self-buffs. Employ strategies that enhance your Warrior and avoid offensive magic, as Astos’s high magic evasion makes it ineffective. Prepare for his Death spell with Phoenix Downs and keep your White Mage healing with Cura.

Once victorious, you’ll receive the Crystal Eye. Sail north to Matoya’s Cave to exchange the eye for the Jolt Tonic, essential for awakening the prince.

Waking the Elf Prince
After trading with Matoya, return to Elfheim and head to the castle. Administer the Jolt Tonic to the Elf Prince, who will reward you with the Mystic Key. With this key, you can now unlock all the previously inaccessible chests. Several of these chests will introduce you to new enemies, expanding your bestiary.

Next, prepare to venture to Mount Duergar by sailing northeast and docking at the port. Here, you will find 10 additional chests, and by assisting Nerrick the dwarf with Nitro Powder, you’ll open a canal allowing your ship to traverse the seas freely.

Stock up on Gold Needles before sailing through the canal toward Melmond, as the enemies in this next area pose a petrification threat. Being unprepared could lead to a party wipe.
