Setback for Amazon's God of War TV Series as Kratos Actor Suffers Injury

Amazon's highly anticipated God of War television adaptation has encountered a significant hurdle following an injury sustained by Ryan Hurst, the actor portraying Kratos. Reports from Deadline reveal that Hurst suffered a torn bicep while executing a stunt on set. After undergoing surgery, the production team opted to recast the role rather than wait for Hurst's recovery, which typically takes between four to six months.

Given that the production schedule could not accommodate a delay lasting until 2027, the decision to recast was made to keep the project moving forward. Preparations for the next phase of filming are set to commence in August, with an aim for production to resume by mid-October.

By the time of Hurst's injury, four episodes had already been filmed, and these will now need to be re-shot due to the changes in casting. This turn of events marks a disappointing moment for Hurst, who was announced as the lead in January. Early promotional images showed him in full makeup, featuring Kratos's signature ashen white skin as he stood alongside Callum Vinson, who plays Atreus. Reports indicated that Hurst dedicated considerable effort to the role, gaining 40 pounds of muscle to closely embody the formidable god of war.

Sophie Turner, the lead in a Tomb Raider adaptation, also suffered an injury, a back injury. which caused a halt in production, although a decision was made to wait for her recovery in that case.
