As you embark on your adventure in Final Fantasy I, your journey begins just outside the Kingdom of Cornelia. At this stage, it's advisable to skip any overworld battles to focus on acquiring essential gear, including weapons and armor. The game has a total of 12 bestiary entries and 3 treasure chests to discover, but rest assured, nothing in this initial phase is permanently missable. Should you overlook anything, you can always return to collect it after the credits roll, allowing you to play at your own pace.

Exploring Cornelia Town
Before venturing north, take a moment to explore Cornelia Town and make the most of your starting funds, which amount to 500 Gil. Here’s what to prioritize in your shopping spree:
Cure: This spell is vital as it is your primary healing option for your White Mage.
Fire: Equip this spell for your Black Mage, as it will be your main source of damage.
Thunder: It's a wise choice to acquire this spell early on, as it will prove particularly effective against sea enemies in the next chapter.
While browsing through the weapon and armor shops, ensure you upgrade any items that surpass your starting gear. If you have a Monk in your party, remember to remove their weapons, as their unarmed damage scales with levels, making them stronger than anything available in Cornelia.

The King's Request
After equipping your characters, speak with the guard located north of town to meet the King of Cornelia. He will assign you the important task of rescuing Princess Sarah, who is being held captive by Garland, a rogue knight residing in the Chaos Shrine to the north.

Confronting Garland
Garland is your first boss encounter, and you'll find him to be primarily a physical attacker. This fight is straightforward due to his low magic defense, making spells like Fire and Thunder particularly effective. Here’s a recommended strategy:
Use your Black Mage to cast Fire or Thunder.
Engage in auto-attacks with your Warriors.
Keep your party healed with your White Mage’s spells.

Rescuing Princess Sarah
Upon defeating Garland, Princess Sarah will teleport your party back to Cornelia Castle. The King will express his gratitude by ordering the reconstruction of the bridge to the north. Additionally, Sarah will gift you the Lute, which is a key item you will need for future quests. Approach the newly rebuilt bridge to trigger a cutscene, paving the way for your next adventure into Matoya’s Cave and Pravoka.
